Love and Hate

Love and hate relationships are a fact of life. I'm sure every human has a love hate relationship with at least this one thing: gravity. I can think of a few examples exclusively from skiing. For one, there are chairlifts, an acrophobe's bane. Obviously, on a chairlift, you hate the fact that gravity gives you the option of plummeting to the ground. However, gravity is the thing keeping you in the seat in the first place. You also love it for allowing you to go skiing at all. You know, with the fast movement down the hill. Of course, some (including me) hate it for making you go too fast. Then there are ski boots (which I rate as about the third least effective method of movement, after hopping on one leg and flopping). You hate gravity for making the heavy boots nigh impossible to lift. Of course, you love the part where gravity makes it stay on the ground. Then their is the wide view on gravity. It keeps us from being hurled into space (thank goodness), but sometimes we'd like it to be a little less strict about how fast we fall or how much we have to stay on the ground (like when your car careens off a cliff, or when you just can't jump high enough to get the stuff of the racks at stores).

Then there's stuff like chocolate. Everyone loves the taste. Absolutely irresistible. Of course, there is the health problem. The best of foods are not healthy (though I don't really hate them for it). Chocolate fudge, deep-fried Twinkies, whatever. Most of good foods aren't designed for health.

If anyone who reads this has a particular love hate relationship, mention it to me in the form of a comment, and I'll choose the best to be in a poll.

  1. I love and hate cleaning and cooking (the process can feel like drudgery, but I love the effects).

    Fun post!

  2. Lets see, love - hate....hmmmm...ok...I love and hate computers. They open up a world of information at our fingertips but then when the computer becomes out dated...it can be so slow that it is very frustrating. But it really is great to keep in contact with family and google images of lilacs and cupcakes!!
